Advent Power Brake ePBS UAS

Power Brake and Anti-Skid Control Systems for Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS)

For modern day all-electric Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) requiring brake control, Advent supplies a proprietary, self-contained, digitally controlled hydraulic power brake system, available with proven Advent eABStm anti-skid functionality. The system can also serve as an independent power braking system for all-electric Crewed Aircraft.

The complete system, known as the Advent ePBStm, is reliable, light weight, easy to install, and affordable. The brake system can be supplied with or without anti-skid control. ePBS configurations are also available for UAS that have aircraft hydraulic systems.

The system can receive input commands via RS-485, ARINC429 or Analog Discrete to vary brake pressure for controlled and safe landings and for differential brake control. The eABStm system can be tuned to optimize stopping distances while minimizing tire wear. With eABS incorporated into the system, you can be confident your mission will be completed while protecting your tires during aggressive braking or braking on contaminated runways.

Components are off-the-shelf Advent proprietary products, qualified to DO160 and DO178 standards. The only electric power source required is 28VDC. The system is available for military or commercial applications and is in service on multiple UAS platforms. Export of the system is subject to the US Department of Commerce EAR, with ECCN 9a991.d, no license required.

Advent ePBS components can be delivered as a complete kit. A kit (see photo below) with self-contained hydraulic power and anti-skid control for an all-electric air vehicle (uncrewed or crewed) with single wheel landing gear consists of:

  • Digital Dual Valve Brake Controllers (DDVU)(2)
  • Brake Pressure Generators (BPG)(2)*
  • Accumulators (2)
  • Pressure Transducers (4)
  • Digital Electronic Control Module (DECU)(1)
  • Wheel Speed Transducers (2)
  • Hub Caps (2)
  • Parking Brake Valves (2)(Optional)

* For UAS with an aircraft hydraulic system available, the BPG's are replaced by Brake Valve Modules (BVMs). All other components remain the same.

Wheel speed transducers and hub caps are designed by Advent specifically for the axles and wheels installed on the air vehicle, unless they are common to one of the many other platforms that use Advent anti-skid components. Weight of the ePBS system outlined above is 27 lbs. Add 3 lbs. if Parking Brake Valves are included.

Overall system braking response depends upon the layout of the installation, displacement vs pressure curve of the brakes, wheel/tire/brake inertia, landing and RTO speeds and aircraft aerodynamics, among other items. Contact us to discuss your specific UAS power braking system requirements.

Optional Park Brake Valves

After landing, secure your aircraft with optional motorized Park Brake Valves. These valves are incorporated between the Brake Pressure Generator (BPG) or Brake Valve Module (BVM), as applicable and brake caliper. The Park Brake Valve is commanded through its associated DDVU, with no need to have a separate controller for operation.
